Sadio Mane will wear the No.17 shirt at Bayern Munich, the record champions have confirmed.
Mane, who wore the No.10 at Liverpool, completed his move to Bayern on 22 June.
“I picked out 17 from the free jersey numbers at FC Bayern and aim to celebrate many successes with my team and this number,” Mane told the Bayern website.
“Now I’m really looking forward to starting preparations for the season with my new teammates very soon.”
Mane inherits the No.17 from former fringe player Michael Cuisance, who left Bayern in January 2022. Decorated defender Jerome Boateng, ex-captain Mark van Bommel, Christian Ziege and Thorsten Fink have also worn the number.
Mane spent the last four seasons with the No.10 on his back at Liverpool, having donned No.19 – Alphonso Davies’ squad number at Bayern – between 2016 and 2018. He wore 40 at Red Bull Salzburg, as well as 33 and 21 for Metz. The No.10 shirt, held by Leroy Sane at Bayern, is his current choice with reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal.
