Everton winger Andros Townsend aims a dig at ‘moaning’ Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for finally getting his way over use of five substitutes in the Premier League next season after ‘constantly banging on and on’
Everton winger Andros Townsend has made at dig at Jurgen Klopp, claiming the Liverpool boss has been ‘moaning for years’.
In seasons gone by, Klopp called on five substitutions to be introduced into the Premier League in order to protect players from sustaining injuries.
The 55-year-old’s wish has been granted ahead of the new season but Townsend believes the Premier League gave in due to Klopp ‘constantly banging on and on’ about it.
Everton winger Andros Townsend has accused Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp of ‘moaning’
Speaking on talkSPORT, Townsend said: ‘I love how Jurgen Klopp has found a way to get his way. He’s been moaning for years. They have been pushing back, and finally, they have given him his five subs.
‘I think we saw last season, even the season before, constantly banging on and banging on. Votes on votes on votes. Getting pushed back, then all of a sudden, they announced the five subs eventually’.
Townsend joined Everton for free last summer after his contract with Crystal Palace expired.
He scored seven goals and provided four assists in 27 games across all competition before sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in March.
After marginally avoiding relegation last season, Everton will start the new campaign when they host Chelsea on August 6.
